Cell proliferation studies in primary synovial chondromatosis

Abstract: The translational and orientational movement of single terrylenediimide dye molecules incorporated as guests in the nanometer‐sized pores of an M41S host silica film is observed simultaneously (see figure). By correlating the dynamics of position and orientation as well as orientation and emission spectra of single molecules, the nanoscaled heterogeneities of the mesoporous host are determined.

“…There is a debate whether it arises de novo or if synovial chondromatosis is a precursor condition. 27 Davies et al 27 identified three patients with malignant transformation, from 53 patients with primary synovial chondromatosis and none of these involved the wrist joint. From our literature review majority of the papers did not have long term follow-up (mean 32 months, range 6À72) to accurately assess recurrence, possibly a longer follow-up period could reveal a higher recurrence rate.…”

“…12 Histologically, malignant transformation is hard to distinguish from the primary lesion due to overlapping cellular features. 3 In veterinary medicine, malignant transformation to chondrosarcoma has been reported only once, in a dog with intra-and extra-articular synovial chondromatosis. 4 The present report describes a case of primary synovial osteochondromatosis in the elbow of a dog that also underwent malignant transformation to chondrosarcoma.…”

“…According to the examinations of Davis et al [8], synovial chondromatosis seems to be a metaplasia because of the absence of mitotic figures and the lack of Ki-67 protein positive immuno-staining. In contrast to this, some authors gave report about clonal chromosome changes in four cases of synovial chondromatosis [17].…”
