Abstract: Recently, zwitterions have been proposed as novel cryoprotectants. However, some cells are difficult to cryopreserve using aqueous zwitterion solutions alone. We investigated here the reason for cell damage in such cells, and it was the osmotic pressure after freeze concentration.
