“…Many faculty in civil engineering, and we suspect other engineering disciplines, became aware of learning styles theory through Richard Felder's work [1,6,7,8,9]. Since 1999, over 1000 faculty members in the civil engineering education community have been introduced to the concept of learning styles as a result of their participation in the American Society of Civil Engineers (ASCE) Excellence in Civil Engineering Education (ExCEEd) Teaching Workshop (ETW) [10,11]. One of the 13 seminars offered in the ETW focuses on learning styles, the use of different teaching techniques is demonstrated in each of three demonstration classes, and participants incorporate different techniques in their practice classes.…”
