Safety and efficacy of home intravenous antimicrobial infusion therapy in older patients: a comparative study with younger patients

“…The increasing complexity of providing health care has resulted in the development of the HHP which allows for intravenous administration of wide range of antibiotics in the patient’s home. The scientific basis for this new health care modality is supported by the latest pharmacodynamic knowledge regarding different antibiotics (18,19) and the development of new pharmaceutical formulas (20) allowing drug administration in one daily dose or the use of continuous or pulsatile perfusion pumps (21).
