CDKN3 expression is an independent prognostic factor and associated with advanced tumor stage in nasopharyngeal carcinoma

Abstract: Background: Through data mining from the public transcriptome of NPC, cyclin-dependent kinase inhibitor 3 (CDKN3) was identified as a significantly upregulated gene in NPC. CDKN3 functions as a key factor in cell cycle regulation. This study was aimed to investigate the expression of CDKN3 in NPC tissues and its prognostic significance. Methods: Immunohistochemistry was performed for 124 NPC patients to assess the protein expression of CDKN3. The stainings of CDKN3 were scored by using H-score method. The relat… Show more

“…The specific mechanism regarding the impact of CDKN3 overexpression on patient survival necessitates further exploration. Most studies have shown that CDKN3 overexpression is associated with the cell cycle, DNA replication, et al, thereby promoting tumor progression 4,6. Our study also showed that CDKN3 plays an important role in the proliferation of ESCA cells.…”

“…Overexpression of CDKN3 has been found in numerous human cancers,4,5,6 but the mechanism of CDKN3 overexpression has not been clear. Chau-Ting Yeh discovered that multiple forms of CDKN3 mutants and aberrant transcripts were present in hepatocellular cancerous tissues, but not in hepatitis tissues 15.…”

“…CDKN3 has been reported to be involved in tumor development and progression (14)(15)(16)(17). Chang et al (26) have demonstrated that CDKN3 is overexpressed in nasopharyngeal cancer (NPC) tissues and that high expression of CDKN3 is associated with an advanced tumor stage and poor survival; thus, CDKN3 may serve as a predictive target for NPC. In cervical cancer, the expression of CDKN3 is associated with poor survival, and silencing CDKN3 expression significantly reduces cell proliferation (15).…”

“…The AKT signaling pathway serves important roles in inducing the cell cycle, proliferation and invasion. Therefore, the protein levels of the vital genes involved in the AKT signaling pathway (26)(27)(28) were determined in the present study. The results demonstrated that knockdown of CDKN3 suppressed the phosphorylation of AKT and the expression of cyclin D1 and upregulated the expression of p27.…”
