CD4+ T cells that express high levels of CD45RB induce wasting disease when transferred into congenic severe combined immunodeficient mice. Disease development is prevented by cotransfer of purified CD4+ T cells.

Abstract: SummaryPurified CD4 + lymph node T cells were sorted into two populations on the basis of their expression of CD45RB (CD45RB hi and CD45RB 1~ and injected into congenic severe combined immunodeficient (SCID) mice. After a period of time that was dependent on the number of cells injected, the SCID mice that received CD45RBhi/CD4 + T cells developed a wasting disease that was not seen in SCID mice that received the CD4+/CD45RB 1~ cells or whole lymph node cells. At death, SCID mice that received the CD4 +/CD45RB… Show more

“…Thus, CD38 [14], CD62L high [15][16][17][18][19] and CD45RB low [14,20,21] have all been shown to inhibit autoimmunity and cells that express CD45RB low [22,23],CD38 [24] and CD25 (summarized in Ref. [25]), have also been shown by us [22] and by others [23][24][25] to inhibit transplantation rejection.…”

“…To investigate this, Th1 cells were intravenously injected into Rag1 À/À mice to induce colitis [49]. The Th1 cells had been generated from C57BL/6 naïve Th cells, and activated with anti-CD3 and anti-CD28 in the presence of IL-12 for 6 days.…”

“…To assess how the differential rate of AICD induction in wtTNF and tmTNF CD4 1 T cells affects T-cell expansion during inflammatory conditions in vivo, we followed the accumulation of transferred T cells in the CD4 1 CD45RB hi T-cell transfer model of colitis [20,21]. To this end, colitogenic wtTNF and tmTNF CD4 1 T-cell subsets were adoptively transferred into wtTNF and tmTNF RAG2 À/À recipients, respectively.…”
