Cd(II) Capture Ability of an Immobilized, Fluorescent Hexapeptide

Abstract: Cys-Tyr-(YY), targeting Cd(II) ion sensing, was synthesized on various solid supports including two resins, as well as glass and quartz surfaces. The synthesis was based on the Fmoc (9-fluorenylmethoxycarbonyl) and the APTES (3-aminopropyltriethoxysilane) methodologies on the resin and silica supports, respectively. “…The CI values of these Cd II hook complexes are two‐to‐four orders of magnitude more stable (CI=17–19) than the strongest ones with XPA zf (CI=12.8), CadC (CI=12.6), CmtR (CI=12.2), or MT2 (CI=14.4 for β‐domain and 15.8 for α‐domain) . Moreover, the complexes investigated here are much more stable than the Cd II complex with EDTA (CI=13.6), consensus CP1 zf (CCCC) zinc finger (CI=13.4), or short poly‐Cys peptides known to form highly stable complexes with Cd II , for instance Ac‐YCSSCY or Ac‐CC‐NH 2 , for which CI is 14.8 and 12.6, respectively .
