CCD photometric search for peculiar stars in open clusters

Abstract: Abstract. The search for chemically peculiar (CP) stars in open clusters using photoelectric photometry sampling the presence of the characteristic flux depression feature at 5200Å via the ∆a-system (Maitzen 1976) has so far delivered data for objects usually no more distant than 1000 pc from the Sun. A series of fourteen papers (first: Maitzen & Hensberge 1981; for the time being last: Maitzen 1993) were devoted to 1240 stars in 38 open cluster fields. If one intends to study the presence of CP stars at larger… Show more

“…The ∆a-photometry was obtained in a program including four other open clusters (see Bayer et al 2000). The Bochum 61 cm telescope at ESO and the Helen-Sawyer-Hogg 61 cm telescope at UTSO (Las Campanas) were used with CCD cameras with a field of view around 4 arcmin.…”

“…The normality line (see Bayer et al 2000 for the definition) is shifted by E(g 1 − y) = 0.4E(B − V) to the red and by a small amount E(a) to higher a-values (Maitzen 1993) …”

“…The first three papers of this series (Bayer et al 2000;Paunzen & Maitzen 2001, 2002 Joncas & Borra (1981) and Borra et al (1982) presented ∆a-photometry for the Orion OB1 and Scorpio-Centaurus associations. They concluded that the metal enrichment takes place on time scales of a few 10 7 yr with an incidence of CP stars less than 5% of all stars in the relevant temperature domain.…”
