CBCT in Pediatric Dentistry: Awareness and Knowledge of Its Correct Use in Saudi Arabia

Abstract: CBCT (Cone-beam computed tomography) is used for diagnosis, planning of treatment, and research. However, there are doubts and opinions regarding the use of CBCT for children and in pediatric dentistry. The knowledge about using this technique for pediatric patients is not clear to the dentists and some dental situations are still debated, therefore this study was done to understand the awareness and knowledge among dental practitioners and students across Saudi Arabia. A cross-sectional and descriptive survey… Show more

“…For instance, the recognition of cone-beam computed tomography (CBCT) for improved diagnostic accuracy and reduced radiation exposure indicates an understanding of the benefits of this technology. 6 In the study conducted by Smita Singh Bhardwaj et al, 44.4% of the participants believed that cone-beam computed tomography (CBCT) should be preferred for 3D imaging in dentistry 7 , while in our study, it was 31.3%. Similarly, the positive perceptions of artificial intelligence in streamlining administrative tasks and potentially enhancing patient outcomes are noteworthy.…”

“…3) «Оптимізація зображення», тобто необхідно завжди намагатися отримати рентгенографічне дослідження високої якості, використовуючи при цьому попередні два принципи. Так, наприклад, зниження дози при виконанні КПКТ можна досягти шляхом зменшення поля зору [42,43]. У випадках зубощелепно-лицевої пухлини або виникнення інфекції МСКТ є ефективним методом обстеження.…”

“…70 Finally, the concept of "paediatric" has emerged, referring to paediatric dentistry in which new approaches have made it possible to understand the role of new technologies such as cone-beam computed tomography; studying factors, including the degree of awareness; and knowledge of correct use. 71 The scientific production centered on students is focused on their skills and experiences that contribute to problem solving and lifelong learning; this research has focused on students' performance in building meaning based on previous experiences and new information.…”
