Cavity Soliton Molecules and All-Optical Push-Broom Effect

Abstract: Abstract-We present an improved model for cavity soliton generation by coupling frequency-selective feedback to a verticalcavity surface emitting laser with a saturable absorber. The frequency-selective feedback is found to lower down the threshold pump power for cavity soliton generation and eventually to broaden the stability regime. A new dynamics of cavity solitons is revealed in form of "all-optical push-broom effect." Also, stable bound states of cavity solitons that resemble linear diatomic and polyatom… Show more

“…Usually to sustain CS in VCSEL a holding beam of homogeneous low intensity is required. To avoid complexity, due to the holding beam, VCSEL with saturable absorber (SA) [6,7] and frequency selective feedback (FSF) [8,9] has now been studied separately as well as in combination [10][11][12] to achieve the CS.…”

“…To switch off the CSs it is sufficient to set the phase difference value in equation (10) to 180 so that the switching beam appears in opposite phase with respect to the injected beam. This would lead to filling of the dip created in the population profile due to presence of a CS.…”

“…In such cavities, when the patterned solution happens to coexist with a lower intensity stable solution, a cell of the spatially modulated structure is surrounded by the homogenous background giving rise to a localized structure called cavity soliton (CS) with interesting potential applications [3]. They range from logical operators [4,5] and delay-line memories [6][7][8] to microscopes [9,10] and micromotors [11].…”
