A 12 year old dog was submitted for a routine pregnancy examination. The information received from the owner was that the animal had been mated 45 days previously. During abdominal palpation, a hard, round mobile structure was detected. Extension of the tumour from the right ovary into the abdomen was determined by ultrasonography. Hemogram, blood biochemistry, estradiol and serum progesterone analyzes were performed before surgery. An ovariohysterectomy was performed and 1.6 L of ascites fluid aspirated. A tumour in the right ovary weighing 1.3 kg was detected. Histopathological examination revealed ovarian papillary cystadenoma. One month after the operation, the animal showed good general condition, however, five months after the operation, the state of health deteriorated. Euthanasia followed this, because the metastases were detected in the repeated laparotomy operation. As a result, Increased serum E2 and E2/P4 ratio (3.15), and sonographically detectable abdominal mass and ascites could be useful for the dectection of the ovarian tumour in bitch. In case of rapidly growing papillary adenomas, frequent post-operative controls should be recommendable. Alınan anamnezde köpeğin 45 gün önce çiftleştiği bilgisi verildi. Abdominal palpasyonda yuvarlak, sert kıvamda hareketli bir yapının olduğu hissedildi. Ultrasonografik muayenede sağ ovaryumla bağlantılı tümöral yapının varlığı saptandı. Cerrahi operasyon öncesi hemogram, kan biyokimya, estradiol ve serum progesteron analizleri yapıldı. Yapılan Ovariohysterektomi operasyonu ile abdomendeki asites aspire edildi (1.6 L). Sağ ovaryumdaki tümörün 1.3 kg ağırlığında olduğu tespit edildi. Histopatolojik kontroller sonucunda ovaryum papillar kist adenom tanısını konuldu. Ameliyattan bir ay sonra, hayvanın genel durumunun iyi olduğu, ancak ameliyattan beş ay sonra sağlık durumu kötüleştiği tespit edildi. Bu durum ardından tekrardan yapılan laparatomi operasyonunda metastazlar tespit edildiği için ötenazi uygulandı. Sonuç olarak, artmış serum E2 ve E2/P4 oranı (3.15) ile ultrasonografik olarak saptanabilen abdominal kitle ve asides varlığı ovaryum tümörünün tanısı bakımından önem taşımaktadır. Hızla büyüyen papiller adenomlar durumunda sık post-operatif kontroller yapılması önerilebilir.

BackgroundCanine herpesvirus 1 (CHV‐1) is an important cause of death in newborn puppies and of fertility problems in adult dogs. Identification of risk factors may help to reduce infection rates and alleviate concerns for dog owners and breeders. This study was designed to screen for CHV‐1 infection in bitches of breeding kennels and farms in Iran and relate this to possible risk factors.MethodsA total of 63 vaginal samples were collected from dogs in 5 breeding kennels (n = 47) and from 7 farms (n = 16). Real‐time polymerase chain reaction was used to detect the CHV‐1 specific glycoprotein B (gB) gene. Prevalence rates were evaluated in relation to various risk factors, including region, housing, vaccination, deworming, pregnancy, reproductive problems, number of dogs living together and hygiene conditions.ResultsIn total, 21 (33.3%) of 63 vaginal samples were positive for CHV‐1 DNA. The prevalence rate in farms (7/16; 43.7%) was higher than in kennels (14/47; 29.7%). No association was found between CHV‐1 prevalence and potential risk factors.ConclusionsCHV‐1 is highly prevalent in dogs in Iranian farms and kennels. Since the CHV1 vaccine is unlicensed in Iran, effective management strategies are essential to reduce the consequences of this pathogen.

Öz: Bu çalışmada köpekler için önemli bir sağlık problemi olan ve çoğunlukla infertiliteye yol açan kronik endometritislerin tanısında Syndecan-1'in rolü araştırılmıştır. Ayrıca Syndecan-1 ve hematoksilen-eozin (HE) boyama yöntemlerinin kronik endometritislerin tanısındaki karşılaştırmaları yapılmıştır. Genellikle herhangi bir klinik semptom gözlenemeyen kronik endometritislerde tanı güç olduğundan prognoz iyi değildir. Bunun için endometritislerin kronik formlarında güvenilir bir yöntemle yapılan erken tanı oldukça önemlidir. Endometritislerin çeşitli tanı yöntemlerinden biri olan histopatolojik muayenede plazmositlerin varlığı yangı karakterinin kronik formu için ayırıcı bir özelliktir. Histopatolojik boyama yöntemleriyle belirlenebilen plazmositler, aynı zamanda plazmositlere spesifik Syndecan-1 reseptörünün immünohistokimyasal boyama yöntemiyle de saptanabilir. Bu çalışma için Van ili ve çevresinde 67 adet dişi köpek uterusu temin edildi. Uterus dokularının histopatoloji için hematoksilen-eozin (HE) ve immünohistokimyasal inceleme için Syndecan-1 boyamaları gerçekleştirildi. Yapılan incelemelerde 57 adet endometritisli uterus örneklerinden HE boyamayla 18'ine; Syndecan-1 ile 21'ine kronik endometritis tanısı konuldu. Çalışma sonucunda; HE'nin aksine Syndecan-1 boyama ile plazmositlerin daha kolay ve net bir şekilde seçilebildiği görüldü. Ayrıca köpeklerde ilk defa yapılan bu çalışmayla kronik endometritislerin tanısında Syndecan-1'in güvenilir ve pratik bir yöntem olduğu tespit edildi.
