Causes of corrosion cracking of pipe metal and methods for their protection

Abstract: The article is devoted to studying the problem of corrosion cracking of pipelines and methods of their protection. An analysis of the main factors that determine the phenomenon of corrosion cracking is given. The article deals with the issue of identification of corrosion cracking based on the “carbonate theory”. The main methods of protection of metal structures from corrosion cracking are given.

In this paper, modern methods of protecting oil and gas equipment from corrosion are considered. The types of corrosion and their characteristics are listed. The features of the operating conditions of oilfield equipment are described. The damage caused by corrosion is shown. The methods of protection of equipment from corrosion, their features, advantages and disadvantages are given. used to minimize, control and monitor corrosion. The article presents an algorithm of actions to combat corrosion. Possible ways to solve the problem of corrosion by using online corrosion monitoring using interactive ultrasonic thickness sensors are presented.

This paper presents a method for calculating the residual metal life of pipelines with crack-like defects. The results of corrosion and fatigue tests of ordinary grade structural steel VSt3sp, widely used in the oil and gas industry, are presented. The work carried out studies on the effect of cathodic polarization on the cyclic crack resistance of VSt3sp steel under the influence of a carbonate-bicarbonate medium.

The article describes the actual problem of the introduction of nanotechnology in various fields of activity and existing technologies of the oil industry. The expediency of using nanotechnology to increase oil recovery, in the production of metal alloys to increase their strength characteristics and corrosion resistance, insulating coatings to reduce heat losses, lubricants that reduce wear of mating surfaces, in laboratory studies is shown. The results of the application of various nanotechnologies in the oil industry are presented.
