This paper aims to investigate a positive inter-relationship between tourism, trade, infrastructure and economic growth. Through number of literature examine bilateral relationship between the variables; the literature has certified that tourism is the one of the key factor in trade and economic growth as well as trade is the key factors of tourism and economic growth. Furthermore, the literature found that infrastructure has a strong correlation between tourism, trade and economic growth. The results were mixed, some study found bidirectional and unidirectional relationship in bilateral model between tourism, trade, infrastructure and economic growth. Nevertheless, few studies carried out in term of analyzing the dynamic relationship between these four variables in Malaysia. In order to fill the gaping hole, t h e study analyzes the dynamic relationship between tourism, trade, infrastructure and economic growth in Malaysia. Therefore, the study used cointegration and granger causality tests to estimate the causal relationships between trade, tourism, infrastructure and economic growth in Malaysia using an annual data from 1999 to 2010. Findings show that trade has a significant impact in the long run on the economic performance of Malaysia. In the short run, statistical results show that there are causal relationships between trade, tourism, infrastructure and economic growth. The present results support growth-led tourism, tourism-led infrastructure, trade and economic growth, trade-led growth, tourism and infrastructure as well as infrastructure -led growth and infrastructure development in the short run. Overall, this study indicates that tourism, trade, infrastructure and economic growth interact and reinforce each other either directly or indirectly.

The paper studies the dynamics of economic growth caused by an increase in the growth rate of tourism demand.We develop a simple dynamic model of a small open economy, which is completely specialized in the production of tourism services (island economy model), populated by a large number of intertemporally optimizing agents, deriving utility from consuming an imported good. Tourism services are produced by means of a simple AK technology by using imported capital, its accumulation associated with adjustment costs. Moreover, the economy can lend or borrow at the international financial markets at the given world interest rate. Adjustments in the relative price of tourism services ensure market clearance for tourism services.The long-run growth rate of the economy is tied to the growth rate in tourism demand. An increase in the latter increases thus the economy's long-run balanced growth rate. In contrast to the standard one-good small open economy endogenous growth model, where the economy is always on its balanced growth path, we show that there are transitional dynamics after an increase in the growth rate of tourism demand. In particular, the short-run growth rate of output rises gradually towards its higher long-run level, and the market price of tourism increases during transition. Thus, an increase in the growth of tourism demand, say, caused by higher economic growth abroad, leads to a boom in the small open economy and increasing terms of trade. Adjustments of the relative price of tourism services (i. e. the real exchange rate) can therefore not protect the economy from demand disturbances.

ResumenCompetitividad y crecimiento se han convertido en dos cuestiones clave en el debate sobre el papel del turismo como instrumento de desarrollo económico. Este artículo demuestra que existe una relación directa y estadísticamente significativa entre ambas variables, y que una mayor competitividad turística favorece un mayor crecimiento turístico de los destinos. Es cierto que esta influencia no se produce con igual intensidad en todos los aspectos utilizados para medir la competitividad turística, por lo que los países deberían apostar por aquellos que mayor capacidad tienen para generar crecimiento. Y también es cierto, y queda patente en este artículo, que hay países que aprovechan mejor su capacidad competitiva que otros, lo que se traduce en la consecución de niveles de crecimiento turístico superiores a los que cabría esperar en virtud de sus competitividad. AbstractCompetitiveness and growth have become two key issues in the debate on the role of tourism as an economic development tool. This article demonstrates a statistically significant direct relationship between two variables, and that further enhances the competitive tourist destination tourism growth. It is true that this influence does not occur with equal intensity in all aspects used for measuring tourism competitiveness, so that countries should opt for those aspects that have enhanced capacity to generate growth.
