The paper presents a novel approach to approximation of a linear transfer function model, based on dynamic properties represented by a frequency response, e.g., determined as a result of discrete-time identification. The approximation is derived for minimization of a non-quadratic performance index. This index can be determined as an exponent or absolute norm of an error. Two algorithms for determination of the approximation coefficients are considered, a batch processing one and a recursive scheme, based on the well-known on-line identification algorithm. The proposed approach is not sensitive to local outliers present in the original frequency response. Application of the approach and its features are presented on examples of two simple dynamic systems.

Abstract-A single-stage equivalent circuit is proposed to model microwave bandpass filters (BPFs) fabricated in low-temperature co-fired ceramic (LTCC) technology up to several times its passband frequency. The equivalent circuit adopts a modified T topology with the expandable multilayer resonators to achieve an extremely large bandwidth. It can be efficiently established from the measured -parameters using direct extraction or rational approximation. As a result, the modeled -parameters for a 2.45-GHz wideband local area network (WLAN) LTCC BPF show good agreement with the measured results over a wide frequency range up to 8.5 GHz. Such a broadband model can be used to accurately predict the suppression of harmonics and interferences in system simulation of the WLAN front-end modules.Index Terms-Equivalent-circuit model, low-temperature co-fired ceramic (LTCC) bandpass filter (BPF), wideband local area network (WLAN) BPF.

The pole and residue values from vector fitting method were applied in this paper, which enables the extraction and implementation of the equivalent circuit to achieve the characteristics of board to package model for GHz frequency range. After the full-wave EM simulation of package model, the mathematical functions are derived by the frequency domain responses of EM simulation. The equivalent circuit model and simulation show good correlation, further verifying the accuracy of the simulated EM data and extracted circuit model. Fourier series of clock pulse to the extracted equivalent circuit provides an approach to tremendously reduced simulation time of the frequency and time domain for the high-speed digital system.
