Catullus, Gaius Valerius

Abstract: A lyric poet from Cisalpine Gaul, Gaius Valerius Catullus (84–54? BCE ) was a member of a group of poets at Rome whom Cicero disdainfully labeled the “Neoterics” for their literary experiments in a Hellenizing style ( Att . 7.2; Lyne 1978).
