Cationic covalent organic framework based all-solid-state electrolytes

Abstract: Two new imidazolium-based cationic COFs were synthesized and employed as all-solid electrolytes, and exhibited high lithium ion conductivity at high temperature. The assembled Li-ion battery displays preferable battery performance at 353 K.

“…513 Recent advancements in the polymer systems such as covalent organic frameworks (COFs) heavily depend on the condensation reaction, which can have potential applications in PEs as well as the in situ cell fabrication process. 209,[514][515][516] Polymer-based artificial surface coatings (PIS-interphases) realized by condensation polymerization over high voltage cathodes are found to improve the cycling performance of LIBs. 348,349,517,518 In many reports, a polyimide (PI)-based surface layer is prepared by thermally assisted condensation polymerization from a precursor of four component polyamic acid solution.…”

“…The net resistance determined by extrapolating the electrode spike to the real component (Z') of the Nyquist plot was used to calculate the overall conductivity. The resulting ion conductivities of Li/PEO@ivCOF-1-Br at 20,40,60,80, and 100 8C were 4.17 10 À4 , 8.21 10 À4 , 1.24 10 À3 , 1.86 10 À3 , and 2.72 10 À3 S cm À1 , respectively. An Arrhenius plot was obtained by plotting ion conductivities as a function of temperature, and the Li-ion-conducting activation energies were as low as 0.09 eV per atom (Figure 5 e).…”

“…[19] These preliminary results revealed the potential of the COF-based composites film as solid ion conductors (Supporting Information, Table S3). [20] The applicability of the as-synthesized COF-based solid electrolyte in Li-ion batteries is still being explored in our lab.…”

“…For example, EB-COF:Br contains ethidium cations; therefore, the counteranion Br À can be exchanged by polyoxometalate [PW 12 379 Furthermore, another type of imidazolium-based cationic COF, namely, Im-COF-Br, can be used as an all-solid-state electrolyte for lithium-ion batteries by exchanging Br À in the framework with the bis(tri-uoromethylsulfonyl)imide (TFSI À ) ion. 380 In 2019, Zhang et al reported anionic COFs as single-ionconducting COF solid electrolyte materials. 381 The treatment of benzimidazole-containing R-ImCOF (R ¼ -H, -CF 3 , and -CH 3 ) with n-butyllithium in n-hexane deprotonated the imidazole ring to form lithium-imidazolate-containing COFs.…”
