Cationic Copolyelectrolytes: Online Monitoring of the Synthesis and Subsequent Copolymer Characterization

Abstract: Kinetics of copolymerization reactions of diallyldimethylammonium chloride (DADMAC) and dimethyl acrylamide (DMA) in aqueous solvent is studied, with highlights on features that control many aspects of the polymeric materials behavior throughout and post‐synthesis. The aim of this study is twofold; first, to offer a method to study the impact of the incorporation of the cationic DADMAC on the composition drift, molecular mass of the copolyelectrolyte, and on the polyelectrolyte behavior by monitoring in real t… Show more

“…The ACM technique utilized a series of real-time detectors to provide continuous measurements (e.g. UV absorbance) with respect to time [27]. For this experiment, ACM was used in recirculation mode to monitor the release of the excess, non-encapsulated Hph through the membrane pores by continuously measuring UV absorbance of the aqueous reservoir solution outside the dialysis membrane (inset Fig.…”

“…Characterization of the amphiphilic SiO 2 NP-PCL-HPG copolymer grafted nanoparticles in terms of stability in aqueous media, size, and loading capabilities was made by Automatic Continuous Mixing (ACM) [27] and dynamic light scattering (DLS) measurements [28]. The ACM technique used a Shimadzu HPLC pump, connected to a mixing unit and a detector train including multi-angle light scattering (Brookhaven), refractive index and UV detectors (Shimadzu).…”
