Categorization and Surgical Techniques of Weak Zonule Based on Findings at Capsulorhexis during Cataract Surgery

Abstract: Purpose: We categorize weak zonule during capsulorhexis.Design: Retrospective interventional case series. Methods:The study examined 5447 consecutive eyes of 3527 cases that underwent phacoemulsification (PEA) and intraocular lens (IOL) implantation between March 2006 and March 2014 at Showa University Fujigaoka Hospital, Kanagawa, Japan. “…We highlighted several intraoperative signs to help diagnose zonulopathy. These signs include the presence of a lens equator, radial folds of the anterior capsule while making continuous circular capsulorhexis (CCC), and other signs of the unstable capsular bag 11–16 . We also found that the proportion of zonulopathy was high (68.8%) in patients with AAC 10,11 .…”
