“…Moreover, our data are in line with a previous study showing that hippocampal norepinephrine is necessary for object recognition memory consolidation (Mello-Carpes et al, 2016). In addition, a recent study in rats also shows that memory persistence can be enhanced with physical exercise, which is completely blocked by an intra-hippocampal infusion of the D 1/5 R antagonist SCH23390, indicating that memory persistence is a dopamine dependent process (Vargas et al, 2020).…”

“…Studies demonstrated that 5 min exploring a new environment increase immediately dopamine levels in the hippocampus (Lima et al, 2019; Menezes et al, 2015). Furthermore, studies that applied pharmacological dopamine stimulators in the same time window revealed NOR memory persistence after that (Lima et al, 2021; Neves et al, 2020; Vargas et al, 2020). So we choose to test the effects of novelty exposure immediately after training on memory persistence, which demonstrated a similar response to the direct dopaminergic stimulation in the hippocampus, depending on the D1Rs and PKA activation.…”

“…The drug concentrations were as follows: SKF 38393, 12.5 μg/μl; SCH 23390, 1 μg/μl; Rp‐cAMP, .5 μg/μl; Sp‐cAMP, .5 μg/μl; Gö 6976, 1.7 ng/μl; and PMA, .5 μg/μl. The concentrations and volumes were based on previous studies showing each compound's effect on learning and behavioural performance (Furini et al, 2014; Menezes et al, 2015; Neves et al, 2020; Vargas et al, 2020).…”

“…Previous data from the literature showed that long intervals of time lead to the deterioration of LTM for objects and that the hippocampus is required for object memory encoding after long intertrial intervals [ 73 ] and persistence of object recognition memory [ 74 ]. Thus, we hypothesized that treatment with a cognitive enhancer could result in the maintenance of LTM for objects over time.…”
