“…All types of trawling (bottom and beam) are prohibited in the Eastern Black Sea (from Ordu to Turkish Georgian border) due to having a very narrow continental shelf. Gillnets, hand lines and deep-water cast nets that are less harmful to the benthic ecosystem are used for demersal fisheries (especially whiting) in the Eastern Black Sea (Karadurmuş et al, 2021). If the European hake forms a population in this area, it is thought that it will be less exposed to overfishing, unlike other areas (the Mediterranean Sea, the Aegean Sea, the Sea of Marmara, and even the Western Black Sea).…”

Sekiz adet Berlam, Merluccius merluccius (Linnaeus, 1758), 2021 yılında Doğu Karadeniz’in Türkiye kıyılarında Ordu’da ticari galsama ağları ile yakalanmıştır. Bireylerin toplam boyları 12,3 cm ile 22,3 cm arasında değişmektedir. Mitokondriyal DNA’nın 16S rRNA ve COI gen bölgeleri analiz edilerek M. merluccius genetik olarak karakterize edilmiştir. Bu kayıt, M. merluccius’un Karadeniz'deki dağılım alanını doğuya doğru genişlettiğini gösteren ilk doğrulanmış rapordur. Türün farklı zamanlarda ve geniş derinlik aralığında (20-92 m) ortaya çıkması, bu türün bölgeye uyum sağladığı kanaatimizi güçlendirmektedir. Verimli bir habitat için mevcut çevresel faktörlerin Doğu Karadeniz'de uzun vadede Avrupa Berlamı’nın biyokütle seviyelerini artırabileceğini vurguluyoruz.

“…Black Sea is known one of the most important regions of Turkey in the shing areas since approximately 80% of the total marine sh production is obtained from the here (TUIK 2022). Many local shermen engage from small-scale shing for their livelihood, and gillnets, trammel nets, hand lines, beam trawls and deep-water cast nets are used for shery in the Black Sea (Zengin 2019; Karadurmuş et al 2021). Length–weight Relationships of 19 Marine Fish Species from the Southern Coast of Black Sea Associated with Small-Scale Fisheries

This study presents the length-weight relationship (LWRs) estimates for 23 marine sh species belonging to 15 families from the southern coast of the Black Sea. The species were sampled using small-scale shing gears such as gillnets and trammel nets at depths of 0-120 m in the period from 2010 to 2021. The LWRs were calculated by the linear regression of natural log-transformed data with respect to W = a × TL b . Growth type was evaluated according to Pauly's t-test. The slope (b-value) ranged between 2.564 and 3.640, corresponded to the commonly expected range (2.50-3.50) except for Salmo labrax and Spicara exuosum. The values for the coe cient of determination (r 2 ) were above 0.95, was considered reliable, except for Belone belone, Chromis chromis, Gobius niger, and Sardina pilchardus. This study targeted specimens from small-scale sheries-related gears and therefore, the results are of prime interest to local sheries management. The new LWR covers a substantially larger TL max compared to any previous study and thus we can assume that all size classes of the species are properly re ected and the new LWRs are a more reliable and speciesspeci c LWRs than any previous estimate. There are four species in the paper that offer new insights in LWRs. These are: Mesogobius batrachocephalus, S. labrax, S. exuosum and Umbrina cirrosa.
