The range of soil properties associated with soil taxonomic class results from natural soil formation and soil-changing effects of human activity. My goal was to assess cultivation effects on soil formation and soil organic carbon (SOC) at four cultivated and two native hummocky till sites from the same climatic region of Saskatchewan. A revised landform segmentation procedure was used for comparisons across sites. Neither A horizon thickness nor SOC was related to topographical attributes at the native sites, but both had significant relationships (P = 0.001) with profile curvature (Pearson r = -0.53 and -0.57 for A horizon thickness and SOC, respectively), specific dispersal area (r = -0.40 and -0.54) and plan curvature (r = -0.24 and -0.34) at the cultivated sites. The greatest decreases in A horizon thickness (16 cm) and SOC (56 Mg ha -1 ) at the cultivated sites occurred in divergent shoulder elements, which have high rates of tillage-induced soil loss. Increases in soil thickness (including depth to calcium carbonate) occurred in concave footslope and depressional elements, but in situ losses of SOC outweighed the effects of SOC deposition. Soil thinning caused increases in the proportion of Orthic Regosols and decreases in the proportion of Calcareous Chernozems, but horizonation changes in the dominant Orthic Chernozems were minor. The self-terminating nature of the horizonation changes and improved conservation measures suggest that the future rate of soil change in these landscapes may be lower than in the past. . L'éventail des paramètres pédologiques associés aux diverses classes de sol résulte à la fois de la pédogenèse et des effets de l'activité humaine sur le sol. L'auteur voulait évaluer les conséquences de l'agriculture sur la pédogenèse et sur la concentration de carbone organique (CO) à quatre endroits cultivés et à deux sites de till mamelonné intacts, dans la même zone climatique, en Saskatchewan. Pour comparer les différents sites, il a recouru à une technique de segmentation du relief modifiée. RESUMOAs primeiras utilizações de Modelos Digitais de Elevação (MDE) nas análises geomorfológicas e hidrológicas datam da década de 1960, já as primeiras extrações automáticas de informação datam da década de 1970, enquanto que os trabalhos focados na extração da drenagem e na delimitação de bacias foram iniciados a partir da década de 1980. Apesar de algumas diferenças de rotina/algoritmos a maioria das metodologias segue os passos de preenchimento de depressão, identificação da direção do fluxo, identificação do fluxo acumulado e definição do limiar de iniciação de canais. Visando testar as diferenças entre os dados de imagens de satélites ASTER GDEM, SRTM e TOPODATA, o presente trabalho comparou as drenagens extraídas para a área da bacia do Riacho do Saco, em Serra Talhada -PE, relacionando-as com a drenagem de referência a partir de informações morfométricas. Foi escolhido o limiar de 0,243Km , analisando as informações topográficas entre os três MDEs, a principal variação deu-se pela baixa amplitude da declividade do SRTM, resultado do tamanho maior do pixel. Em relação à drenagem apesar do SRTM apresentar números totais mais próximos da drenagem de referência o ASTER GDEM apresenta 50% de sobreposição com a drenagem real, enquanto que o SRTM apresenta apenas 11%. Assim, o ASTER GDEM mostrou-se mais adequado para a extração automática da drenagem, sendo que grande parte das diferenças morfométricas apresentadas podem ser corrigidas a partir da inclusão dos lagos existentes e da exclusão da drenagem presentes na área dos lagos.Palavras chave: Extração de drenagem. ABSTRACTThe first efforts to use DEM in geomorphological and hydrological analyzes were realized in the 1960's, but the automatic extractions were only developed in the 1970's. Following, the routines to automatic drainage extraction were defined in the 1980's, creating the basis to actual routines. The actual routines, that might have different algorithms, consist of to fill the depressions, to identify the flow direction, to identify the flow accumulation, and to define the flow accumulation threshold to channel beginning. The present research examined the divergences morphometric between the real drainage and the extract drainages to Riacho do Saco basin, in Serra Talhada -PE, from ASTER GDEM, SRTM and TOPODATA. The accumulation threshold was 0.243 Km . Firstly, the SRTM MDE shows a inferior slope angles because of the bigger pixel size. The SRTM morphometric drainage results are more similar to the reference drainage. Nevertheless the ASTER GDEM drainage shows a better matching with the reference drainage (50%), while the SRTM drainage matches only 11%. The distribution characteristics of the impact craters can provide a large amount of information on impact history and the lunar evolution process. In this research, based on the digital elevation model (DEM) data originating from Change'E-1 CCD stereo camera, three automatic extraction methods for the impact craters are implemented in two research areas: direct extraction from flooded DEM data (the Flooded method), object-oriented extraction from DEM data by using ENVI ZOOM function (the Object-Oriented method) and novel object-oriented extraction from flooded DEM data (the Flooded Object-Oriented method). Accuracy assessment, extracted degree computation, cumulative frequency analysis, shape and age analysis of the extracted craters combined display the following results. (1) The Flooded Object-Oriented method yields better accuracy than the other two methods in the two research areas; the extraction result of the Flooded method offers the similar accuracy to that of the Object-Oriented method. (2) The cumulative frequency curves for the extracted craters and the confirmed craters share a similar change trajectory. (3) The number of the impact craters extracted by the three methods in the Imbrian period is the largest and is of various types; as to their age earlier than Imbrain, it is difficult to extract because they could have been destroyed. As one of the most typical geomorphologic units, the impact craters are widely distributed on the lunar surface. The distribution characteristics of the impact craters provide a large amount of information on impact history and the lunar evolution process. They can be used to estimate lunar surface geology and relative age [1,2], and they also help to explain crust structures of the lunar surface [3]. In order to acquire the information, a mass of craters need to be extracted from images. Manual identification of craters is very time consuming, so researchers presented many automatic extraction methods, such as an algorithm which was able to automatically detect and classify 80% of craters without parameter tuning [4] and a method that enabled a fully automatic detection of 70% of sub-km craters in large panchromatic images [5]. Their extraction work used topographic and spectral information from lunar photos and images like Apollo data, Clementine UV-Vis is multi-spectral images and SELENE data.
