Catalytic synthesis of carbon nanotubes over ordered mesoporous matrices

Abstract: Pyrolytic decomposition of acetylene over the surface of nickel-, cobalt- and iron-containing ordered mesoporous MCM-41 silicas has been studied. Catalytically active matrices have been prepared by chemisorption of volatile metal acetylacetonate complexes on the silica surface. Reduction of the supported metal-containing compounds was carried out in hydrogen or acetylene atmosphere. Acetylene is used not only as a source of carbon in synthesis of the nanostructures but also as a reagent capable of reducing met… Show more

“…β-Diketonates and especially metal β-diketonate complexes have been widely studied for both their instrinsic properties as well as a variety of scientific and technolgical applications. Especially interesting applications include, but are not limited to, catalysis (Burtoloso, 2005), carbon-nanotube structures (Katok et al, 2006), or the deposition of metallic or ceramic thin films (Condorelli et al, 2007). In our own laboratory we are investigating gas phase reactions of a series of metal acetylacetonate (acac) complexes.…”

The synthesis of metal-βdiketonates has also been studied thoroughly (Skopenko et al, 2004).…”
