Catalytic Electrochemical Water Splitting Using Boron Doped Diamond (BDD) Electrodes as a Promising Energy Resource and Storage Solution

Abstract: The present study developed a new system of electrochemical water splitting using a boron doped diamond (BDD) electrode in the electrochemical reactor. The new method assessed the electrical current, acidity (pH), electrical conductivity, absorbance, dissipation, and splitting energies in addition to the water splitting efficiency of the overall process. Employing CuO NPs and ZnO NPs as catalysts induced a significant impact in reducing the dissipated energy and in increasing the efficiency of splitting water.… Show more

“…For this study, 5‐μm BDD layer thickness was obtained on Nb substrate within 20‐h deposition time. Further details on characterization of BDD on Nb substrate via HFCVD was investigated and presented in Al‐Abdallat et al (2020)). SEM analysis was done in previous research to check the proper BDD electrode preparation (Jum'h et al, 2018; Schorr et al, 2019).…”

“…BDD electrodes have many applications in the removal of organics and disinfection process in the literature. For instance, Al‐Abdallat et al (2020) used BDD/Nb electrodes in order to enhance the performance of water splitting process and reduce dissipated energy employing CuO and ZnO nanoparticles catalysts. Lauzurique et al (2022) enhanced the use of anodic oxidation for the disinfection of real industrial wastewater, by simplifying the process and making it more competitive by eliminating the need for pH adjustment or the addition of a supporting electrolyte.…”
