Catalytic and SERS activities of WO3-based nanowires: the effect of oxygen vacancies, silver nanoparticle doping, and the type of organic dye

Abstract: Oxygen vacancies in tungsten trioxide (WO3) nanostructures (WO3−x) dominate the major characteristics of the material and determine their activity in various applications including photocatalysis and surface-enhanced Raman spectroscopy (SERS).

“…It allowed for a fast decomposition of RhB, but the activation movement of the Janus micromotors needed UV light irradiation. Oguzhan Ustun reported only a partial degradation of MB and RhB over WO3 oxides and Ag NPs/WO3 even after two hours of irradiation [71]. The reported metal-NPs/oxide catalysts were used for one or two dye pollutants, while our composites (as a versatile catalyst) were shown to be efficient both for cationic and anionic azo dyes.…”

“…N sers represents the average number of molecules detected on the SERS substrate, and N bulk represents the average number of molecules are detected on the no-SERS substrate. 59 The working wavelength of the confocal Raman spectrometer (LabRAM) was 633 nm. However, this method poses problems for determining the N sers , and it is not possible to determine whether to count the number of all test molecules adsorbed on the substrate or only those adsorbed on the metal nanostructures.…”

“…Here, I sers represents the Raman signal intensity of the probe molecule on the SERS substrate, while I bulk represents the Raman signal intensity of the probe molecule on a blank substrate. N sers represents the average number of molecules detected on the SERS substrate, and N bulk represents the average number of molecules are detected on the no-SERS substrate . The working wavelength of the confocal Raman spectrometer (LabRAM) was 633 nm.…”
