Catalytic activity of polymer–montmorillonite composites in chemical reactions

Abstract: Polymer-clay composite material has been prepared by intercalation of polymeric ammonium salt onto the montmorillonite (Na-MMT) followed by grafted polymerization of hydroxyethyl methacrylate onto amine-terminated poly(butadiene-co-acrylonitrile)-montmorillonite (ATBN-MMT) intercalate. The hydroxyl groups were modified to chloromethyl groups followed by conversion to onium salts, which are suitable as phase transfer catalysis. The catalytic activities of the supported catalysts were investigated in nucleophili… Show more

“…Various metal ions and their complexes have been used widely in homogeneous catalyzed reactions but inherent disadvantages associated with homogeneous catalysis were minimized by using supported metal complexes, which sometime have shown high catalytic activities in comparison to unsupported analogues [1][2][3]. The high chemoselectivity of supported catalysts was due to stereospecific control on interactions of active sites with reactants in comparison to free and unsup- * Corresponding author.…”

“…The electronic spectrum of Fe(III) complex exhibits three broad bands in the range 280-300 nm, 325-350 nm and 470-490 nm. The very low intensity bands at 470-490 nm may be assigned to 6 A 1g → 4 A 1g (G) and 6 A 1g → 4 T 2g (G) transitions in octahedral symmetry 48 around Fe(III). The other bands may be attributed to the LMCT transitions.…”

“…These supported catalysts have often shown high catalytic activities in comparison to unsupported analogues due to the better interaction of active sites with reactant molecules [14][15][16]. A number of inorganic and polymer based support materials have been used to anchor the metal complexes.…”
