Casting Control of Floating-films into Ribbon-shape Structure by modified Dynamic FTM

Abstract: Abstract. We have developed a new method to obtain Ribbon-shaped floating films via dynamic casting of floating-film and transfer method (dynamic-FTM). Dynamic-FTM is a unique method to prepare oriented thin-film of conjugated polymers (CPs) which is quick and easy. This method has several advantages as compared to the other conventional casting procedure to prepare oriented CP films. In the conventional dynamic FTM appearance of large scale circular orientation poses difficulty not only for practical applicati… Show more

“…In this context, we have improvised the conventional FTM by introducing the custom-made slider consisting of Teflon for providing the directionality during film spreading under the FTM. 37 Utilization of custom-made slider during film casting in the FTM led to the fabrication of largearea rectangular films (>2 cm × 20 cm), which we named ribbon-shaped FTM. 38 In this work, a dual approach pertaining to the optimization of synthetic parameters of CP under investigation in combination with fabrication of its large-areaoriented thin films by the ribbon-shaped FTM have been applied for the investigation of anisotropic charge transport.…”

“…Fabrication of large-area homogeneous thin films is highly desired for the acceleration of commercialization efforts of organic electronic devices. “…There is also an approach using surface tension. Conjugated polymer chains are floated onto water surface as a monolayer and then confined to obtain a thin film with aligned polymer chains [ 81 , 82 , 83 ]. These approaches using external forces provide in-plane alignment that is commonly not attainable through the aforementioned approaches.…”

“…[14] Further, to provide unidirectionality, a custom-made assisting slider is used allowing unidirectional spreading of the polymer solution leading to large-area ribbon-shaped oriented thin films. [15,16] The most crucial parameter controlling the anisotropy of the thin films is viscosity of the liquid substrate, while the concentration of the polymer solution has a major impact on the thickness of the fabricated thin films. The distribution of orientation throughout the films has been reported earlier by our group.…”

“…The distribution of orientation throughout the films has been reported earlier by our group. [14,15,[17][18][19] But, there is still considerable uncertainty about the extent of vertical orientation and its impact on the performance of planar devices.…”
