CASMI—A visualization tool for the World Stress Map database

Abstract: The World Stress Map (WSM) project has compiled a global database of quality-ranked data records on the contemporary tectonic stresses in the Earth's crust. The WSM 2005 database release contains approximately 16 000 data records from different types of stress indicators such as earthquake focal mechanisms solutions, well bore breakouts, hydraulic fracturing and overcoring measurements, as well as quaternary fault-slip data and volcanic alignments. To provide a software tool for database visualization, analysi… Show more

“…These regional pattern deviations between modeled and observation orientations are mainly induced by differences in the upper mantle density structures and topographies (Heidbach and Höhne, 2007) (compare to Figure 5a). The high density of heat flow data (Pollack et al, 1993;Artemieva, 2006) , respectively.…”

“…The high density of heat flow data (Pollack et al, 1993;Artemieva, 2006) , respectively. None of our models was able to predict the E-W stress orientation in the Aegean-Anatolian region coming from the ongoing subduction slab rollback (Heidbach and Höhne, 2007;Heidbach, 2003), stem from neither of the two upper mantle thermal-density structures (TM1 and TM2) used is able to accurately capture the dynamics in the Hellenic/Aegean arc and the subducted plate, hence a regional treatment will be appropriate .…”

“…The alternative software tool, CASMI (Create A Stress Map Interactively), is a stand-alone public domain program for UNIX/LINUX operating systems [17]. This software was developed as a user-friendly interface for stress mapping based on the free software GMT CASMI includes all features and selection criteria of CASMO.…”
