Casing Integrity Evaluation in Deep Well with Extreme Heavy Mud in Tarim Basin

Abstract: The high dip angle in formations is one of the reasons makes it difficult to drill in Tarim Basin, resulting in much longer drilling time. To counteract the high pressure from the salt layer above the targeted gas zone, 16-mm heavy casing and drilling mud as heavy as 1.9 g/cc must be used. As drill bit and pipes continue repeatedly tripping in and out the well the heavy casing may get wore thinner. Therefore it's important to know the degree of the casing wear, and to recalculate the remaining strength. Furthe… Show more

“…This choice of angle corresponds e.g. to that of Wang et al (2014) and Tian et al (2011). The distance between the face center of the transmitter and that of the near and far receivers was 25 cm and 35 cm, respectively, giving a distance ∆z = 10 cm between the two receivers.…”

“…He et al (2014) we have chosen f 0 = 250 kHz, though our pulse is shorter in order to better be able to separate different wavefronts. Thus, we use the same combination of frequency and incidence angle as Tian et al (2011) reported for a real tool in a specific logging case. From Zeroug and Froelich (2003), this combination of frequency and incidence angle ensures that the flexural A0 mode is cleanly excited with little contribution from other modes.…”

“…The new-generation ultrasonic imaging tool uses the traditional pulse-echo technology in combination with the latest flexural wave imaging technology to accurately evaluate any type of cement (Van Kuijk et al 2005;Bellabarba et al 2008;Tian et al 2011). The new tool includes a rotating sub assembly supporting four transducers (Fig.…”

“…The following are representative reports, especially in the highpressure environment. Tian, J., et al [1], Xiuwen [2], Li Jun [3], Xinyi [4], Xiaohui [5] and Yonglin, et al [6] studied the strength analysis of deep well casings. Zou Yun [7] and Wang Bo [8] conducted security string mechanics analysis on high -temperature and high-pressure wells.…”
