Case Series and Systematic Review of Treatment Outcomes for Auricular Pseudocysts

Abstract: Objective:Auricular pseudocyst (AP: intracartilaginous cyst, endochondral AP, cystic chondromalacia, and benign idiopathic cystic chondromalacia) is a benign condition of unknown etiology. This report systematically reviews the published demographics, treatment protocols, and outcomes of AP between the various medical disciplines, and compares the findings to a theretofore-unreported 12-patient cohort. “… 8 , 11 In addition, anterior chondrectomy results in good cosmesis with consequent high patient satisfaction rates, making it the preferred choice for the treatment of auricular pseudocyst. 2 , 13 However, after anterior chondrectomy, the ventral surface of the auricle becomes uneven and a pressure bandage may not ensure complete prevention of dead space until final healing occurs. As a result, re-filling the dead space with a hematocele may compromise an initially excellent operative procedure.…”

“…2 In recurrent cases, more invasive surgical approaches, such as anterior wall excision and deroofing surgery, are necessary. 3 We present a treatment for auricular pseudocysts using enhanced negative drainage therapy, which involves only minor trauma and is non-recurrent.…”
