“…Mechanisms of auger injury include device collapse, crush, or electrocution; entanglement either in the auger flighting or power driveline is reported to be the primary cause and responsible for up to 75% of auger injuries. 1,2 Cheng et al revealed that the fatality rate of these incidents can reach up to 32% and may result in amputations of digits or limbs in 21%. Of the 867 auger-related incidents that have been reported to the Occupational Safety and Health Administration since 1984, 51 involved entangled clothing, 23 of which resulted in death.…”
