Land carrying capacity is an important indicator to quantitatively assess and judge the extents of sustainable economic developing and coexistent harmonizing between human and nature. The significance of land carrying capacity has been highlighted recently by the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) of the United Nations, which set clear requirements for arable, construction, and ecological lands. Theories and models of land carrying capacity, however, are suffering from the interference of artificial parameter setting and poor applicability. This paper attempts to overcome these limitations and propose a single factor assessment of the carrying capacity of cultivated land, construction land, and ecological land in terms of the relative carrying capacity from the perspective of a single factor assessment. Through mutual comparison, we found that the deviation caused by simulated parameter setting has been eliminated, and the relative status of each province and/or region in China has been obtained, which could provide a reference for the management and utilization of land resources. We argue that China can achieve basic self-sufficiency in both space capacity and food production without placing pressure on the global sustainable development. The results also indicate that carrying capacity state of the advanced development areas such as the eastern coastal region is relatively poor, while the carrying capacity state of the western region is relatively good.

The increasing population in Jambi Province and intensive land conversion from the agricultural sector to the non-agricultural sector have caused a decrease in the function of agricultural land in producing food needs. One of the methods to assess the potential of food production capability to fullfillment sustainable food needs of population in an area is the carrying capacity of agricultural land. This research aims to: (1) Examine the status of the carrying capacity in Jambi Province, (2) Project the carrying capacity and needs of land capable of providing sufficient food for every resident of Jambi Province in 2025. The results showed that in general Jambi province has not been able to self-sufficient in food. The projection of the need for agricultural land to fullfillment food needs of population in Jambi Province in 2025 will increase to more than 106 percent. Based on the analysis, its inform that the importance of treatment in increasing the carrying capacity of good land by increasing harvested area and agricultural productivity.

The Special Region of Yogyakarta Province is one of the regions where the agricultural sector serves as a significant source of income. Due to the development of the region in the Special Region of Yogyakarta Province, several districts have experienced a decline in agricultural land due to land conversion for residential purposes. The ability of an area to achieve food self -sufficiency or meet its own food needs can be assessed through Land Carrying Capacity (DDL) and food availability. This analysis of Land Carrying Capacity for Agriculture and Food Availability employs a quantitative descriptive method. The land carrying capacity in the Special Region of Yogyakarta Province in 2022 indicates that all districts/cities have a DDL value of <1. This implies that the districts/cities in the Special Region of Yogyakarta Province cannot achieve food self-sufficiency and cannot adequately meet the population’s food needs.
