Carrier Facilitated Transport of Europium(III) Across Supported Liquid Membranes ContainingN,N,N′,N′-tetra-2-ethylhexyl-3-oxapentane-diamide (T2EHDGA) as the Extractant

Abstract: Studies on the solvent extraction and pertraction behavior of europium(III) was carried out from acidic feed solutions using N,N,N 0 ,N 0 -tetra-2-ethylhexyl-3-oxapentane-diamide (T2EHDGA) in n-dodecane as the solvent. The nature of the extracted species from the solvent extraction studies conformed to Eu(NO 3 ) 3 Á 3T2EHDGA which is in variance with the analogous Eu(III) -TODGA (linear homolog of T2EHDGA) extraction system. The transport behavior of Eu(III) was investigated from a feed containing 3.0 M HNO 3 … Show more

“…Ligand coating is the most common and easiest synthetic route, and allows the use of a wide variety of ligands since no reactive groups on the inert support structure are necessary. The coated particles, however, often demonstrate poor stability in tests ranging from 1 h to 10 month contact because high acid concentration or radiation dose can cause the ligands to degrade and to fall off the support structure. Additionally, large volumes of solution flushing through the solid-phase or the use of high pressure can reduce the lifetime of the coated SPE materials. Impregnating the ligand traps the ligand in either the solid support matrix itself or in a polymer filling of a porous substrate.…”

“…Therefore, it was considered judicious to use a phase modifier along with n -dodecane as a diluent for HONTA. Our experience with several bulky diglycolamide (DGA) ligands has indicated that the addition of 5–20% iso -decanol in n -dodecane has sufficient phase modifier effect to avoid the third-phase formation. On the other hand, the addition of iso -decanol as a phase modifier has a detrimental effect on the extraction of metal ions. , Looking at these issues, it was prudent to evaluate the effect of the iso-decanol content (%) in n -dodecane to get the optimum composition of the solvent.…”
