Carrier-envelope phase effects in above-threshold ionization of atomic hydrogen

Abstract: Recent experiments in ultrafast physics have established the importance of above-threshold ionization (ATI) experiments in measuring and controlling the carrier-envelope phase (CEP) of few-cycle laser pulses. We have performed an investigation of atomic hydrogen subjected to intense CEPstable few-cycle laser pulses. The experimental ATI spectra have been compared to predictions from an ab initio numerical solution of the time-dependent Schrödinger equation in three dimensions. Good agreement between experiment… Show more

“…ATI of atomic H is perhaps the best match for this condition, but it is certainly not easy to realize, as it requires an atomic hydrogen source and subtraction of background molecular hydrogen contributions [20][21][22]. In contrast, ATI of Xe cannot currently be simulated with ab initio calculations, but is easily measured and has been used extensively to determine the relative CEP, e.g., using the carrier-envelope phase meter (CEPM) [11].…”

“…Since it is difficult to obtain a reliable estimate for σ P click without a long data series, we should be cautious about applying Eqs. (10) and (11) for values of P click close to 1.…”

“…A map of the amplitude A 0 (E c , I) was constructed, covering a wide range of electron cutoff energies E c and laser peak intensities I. A map of the phase offset was also constructed [11], but its precision was not high enough to admit useful interpretation and we omit it here. Figure 6 shows the map of asymmetry amplitude A 0 (E c , I) and compares it to the predictions derived from 3D-TDSE simulations.…”

“…As for the interaction between the intense laser pulses whose duration is short and matter, the carrier envolope phase (CEP) of pulses will have a direct effect on the phenomena occur, such as the high-order harmonic generation [1] and above threshold ionization [2] etc. The influence of CEP on the ionization of molecules was investigated in this paper.…”
