Autoantibody-associated cognitive impairment is an expanding field in geriatric psychiatry. We aim to assess the association between the presence of specific neural autoantibodies and cognitive performance in a memory clinic cohort. 154 patients with cognitive impairment were included between 2019 and 2020 presenting initially in a memory clinic. We evaluated their patient files retrospectively applying epidemiologic parameters, psychopathology, neuropsychology, intracellular and membrane-surface autoantibodies in serum and cerebrospinal fluid (CSF) and markers of neurodegeneration in CSF. In 26 of 154 patients, we searched for neural autoantibodies due to indicators for autoimmunity. In 15/26 (58%) of patients we detected serum and/or CSF autoantibodies. We identified autoantibodies against intracellular or cell-surface antigens in 7 of all 26 (27%) patients with cognitive dysfunction, although we cannot exclude patients with potential specific autoantibodies lacking autoimmune indicators. There were no significant differences between psychopathological and neuropsychological profiles in groups of patients with cognitive impairment comprising patients with autoantibodies (ABS + COG), no autoantibodies (ABS − COG), and Alzheimer’s disease (ADCOG). Concerning our CSF parameters, we detected intrathecal IgG synthesis in 14% of ABS + COG and in 13% of ABS − COG patients, whereas no intrathecal IgG synthesis was found in ADCOG patients. Furthermore, CSF Aß42 was significantly diminished in the ADCOG compared to the ABS + COG group (p < 0.05). In addition, the Aß42/40 ratio was lower in ADCOG patients than in the ABS + COG or ABS − COG group (p < 0.05). Our findings reveal the underestimated occurrence and autoantibodies’ potential role in patients presenting cognitive impairment. Furthermore, the patients with possible Alzheimer’s disease might be differentiated from autoantibody-positive patients via a reduced Aß42 and Aß42/40 ratio in the CSF. The antibody-type varies between patients to a relevant degree, thus demonstrating the need for more research to identify subgroup-specific phenotypes. These pilot study results open an avenue for improving diagnosis and treatment in a memory clinic.

Psychological Distress and Anxiety among Housewives: The Mediational Role of Perceived Stress, Loneliness, and Housewife Burnout

Housewives are experiencing chronic stress when dealing with multiple roles (cooking, shopping, tidying the house) in their daily life. Although earlier studies have documented a significant link between role overload and stress-psychological wellbeing in the workplace, few studies have been conducted among housewives despite their high anxiety and burnout reports. The diathesis-stress model and transactional model of stress indicate that there may be somecontributory factors related to mental health. Within these frameworks, this research aimed to examine housewives' psychological distress and anxiety by focusing on three contributory factors namely housewife burnout, perceived stress, and loneliness. The present study was a novel contribution to the literature investigating the mediating roles of those three contributory factors between psychological distress and anxiety among housewives. Participants were 500 volunteer housewives between the ages of 20 and 70 from Turkey. In addition to Demographic Information Form, The Perceived Stress Scales (PSS-10), The General Health Questionnaire (GHQ-12), The UCLA Loneliness Scale-Version 3 (UCLA LS3), The Housewives Burnout Questionnaire (CUBAC), and The Beck Anxiety Inventory (BAI) were used. Results showed that there were four paths between psychological distress and anxiety in the model, explaining 31.19% of the total variance in anxiety in housewives. The relationship between psychological distress and anxiety was mediated by perceived distress, loneliness, and housewife burnout. Specifically, the higher psychological distress and higher anxiety relationship were associated with higher perceived distress, higher loneliness, and higher housewife burnout. The findings provide beneficial insight for clinicians to prioritize the abandonment of the cope with loneliness, perceived stress, and burnout while working with housewives having psychological distress and anxiety.

The presented paper discusses the incidence of burnout syndrome among secondary school teachers of technical subjects. Teachers experience burnout syndrome to an increased extent, especially with certain variables. The main goal of the paper is to map the level of burnout syndrome, specifically of emotional exhaustion, depersonalization and personal satisfaction among teachers of technical subjects. Specifically, we analysed the incidence of burnout among technical subjects in the context of all self-governing regions of Slovakia. The research sample consisted of 213 technical subject teachers working at secondary vocational schools of primarily technical orientation in various self-governing regions of Slovakia. Data collection was carried out using the MBI-ES online questionnaire. Statistical analyses were used to evaluate the results of the questionnaire survey. The results show that teachers of technical subjects experience burnout to a moderate degree, statistical significance is observed in the degree of burnout, specifically in the factor of personal satisfaction, in connection with teachers acting in different self-governing regions of Slovakia.
