Background As future health workers, medical students’ attitudes towards tuberculosis (TB) patients can impact TB control. However, in China, there is a lack of well-quantified assessment regarding the stigma among medical students towards TB patients. Therefore, this study aimed to validate the Chinese version of the Tuberculosis related-Stigma Scale (TSS) in medical students and to apply the scale to measure stigma and its determinants. Methods A total of 1035 eligible medical students participated in the cross-sectional questionnaire. Exploratory factor analyses (EFA) and confirmatory factor analyses (CFA) were first conducted to test Chinese version of the TSS construct validity, and then internal consistency was assessed using Cronbach’s α. Finally, multiple linear regression analyses were conducted to identify predictors of stigma. Results EFA extracted two factors (“Social distance” and “Exclusionary sentiments”). The CFA further confirmed the two-factor construct. The internal consistency, convergent and divergent validity of the adapted Chinese version of the TSS was acceptable. Furthermore, Whether one has received TB health education and whether know a person with TB are associated with all dimensions of TB stigma, while differences in sex and place of residence play different roles in influencing the different dimensions of stigma. Conclusion The adapted Chinese version of the TSS can be used to assess the level of stigma among medical students in China towards tuberculosis patients. When implementing future interventions to reduce stigma associated with TB, special attention should be given to medical students from urban areas, of male gender, who have not received TB health education, and no know a person with TB. However, these two dimensions (“Social distance” and “Exclusionary sentiments”) are impacted by different determinants and should therefore be addressed separately when designing, implementing, and evaluating measures to reduce stigma.

The Coronavirus Disease 2019 (COVID-19) pandemic has not only caused widespread economic recession but also had a serious negative impact on the employment of college students. However, little is known about the relationship and mechanisms between the risk perception of COVID-19 and career adaptability. This study aimed to examine whether the risk perception of COVID-19 is associated with career adaptability directly and indirectly through hope and a sense of mastery in college students. A questionnaire survey was conducted among 594 Chinese college students aged 16 to 25, who completed assessments on risk perception of COVID-19, career adaptability, hope, and sense of mastery. The results showed that susceptibility was negatively associated with career confidence, control, and curiosity; moreover, susceptibility indirectly affected career adaptability (including concern, confidence, control, and curiosity) through the sense of mastery; uncontrollable indirectly affected career concern through hope; and uncontrollable indirectly affected career adaptability (including concern, confidence, control, and curiosity) through hope and the sense of mastery. The findings emphasize the role of hope and a sense of mastery in the career adaptability of college students and reveal the necessity of improving hope and a sense of mastery to promote college students' career development. “Implications and limitations are discussed”.

Background: This research aims to investigate the relationships between social support, hope, career exploration, career adaptability, and reactions to career education among Chinese high school students. The study sample consists of 418 Chinese high school students. Various instruments were utilized to assess the variables, including the Child and Adolescent Social Support Scale, the Hope Scale, the High School Students' Career Exploration Scale, the Career Adapt-Ability Scale-Short Form, and the Reactions to Career Education Scale. Methods: The study utilized a sample of 418 Chinese high school students to examine the relationships between social support, hope, career exploration, career adaptability, and reactions to career education. The variables were assessed using the instruments. Smart-PLS and SPSS analyses were employed to determine the correlations among the variables. Results: The analysis revealed a positive correlation between social support, hope, career exploration, career adaptability, and reactions to career education among Chinese high school students. Additionally, evidence suggests that hope, career exploration, and career adaptability act as mediators, indicating the presence of a multi-mediation model. Conclusions: The findings of this research contribute to the understanding of the relationships between social support, hope, career exploration, career adaptability, and reactions to career education among Chinese high school students. These findings support the development of career education strategies for Chinese senior high schools and provide a basis for assessing the effectiveness of such programs.
