Cardiorespiratory fitness of asthmatic children and validation of predicted aerobic capacity

Abstract: The asthmatic participants presented with lower aerobic capacity than controls in both PAC and MAC; therefore, results confirmed the validity of the PAC method. Data warrant exploration by large-scale paediatric asthma epidemiology.

“…Earlier results published by my group found lower HR steadystate of the control group than of the asthma group to suggest that physical activity could have influenced HR differently in asthmatic and nonasthmatic children [2]. Even though regressions slopes for HR and VO 2 have been documented to alter with pulmonary disease [27], applying explanations like those to the present asthmatic PAC reductions would involve laboratory replication.…”

“…Laboratory assessment of cardiopulmonary fitness has been documented to require considerable resources whereas the submaximal exercise test overcomes most of these limitations. The PAC-test represented a noninvasive and validated [2] submaximal method and was therefore preferred for the current study.…”
