Cardiophrenic angle lymph node metastasis from a fallopian primary tumor

Abstract: Isolated cardiophrenic angle node metastases are relatively rare, as are primary fallopian tube carcinomas. We describe a case of a cardiophrenic angle node metastasis from such a tumor, with no peritoneal involvement. A 52-year-old woman, who had been previously diagnosed with fallopian tube carcinoma, was referred with a right cardiophrenic angle mass. A thoracoscopic resection was performed. The pathological diagnosis was lymph node metastasis from the primary lesion.

“…The presence of lymph node metastases will upstage a tumor, adversely affect prognosis, and influence treatment choice [ 1 ]. Isolated CPLN metastases are relatively rare [ 3 ]. While CPLN may be seen in normal subjects, they are usually less than two in number and measure less than 5 mm in diameter [ 1 ].…”

“…They highlighted the importance of comprehensive paraaortic lymphadenectomy for accurate staging of primary fallopian tube cancer. There have been some reports of distant isolated metastasis from fallopian tube cancer such as in the supraclavicular lymph node, cardiophrenic angle lymph node, and sigmoid colon [19][20][21]. It is important to bear in mind that distant metastasis may occur after treatment of fallopian tube cancer.…”
