The Research of this study was to determine the relationship of slice thickness to Maximum Intensity Projection (MIP) reconstructive image information and determine the exact slice thickness to the MIP processing of MSCT examination of Abdominal Angiography. Type of research is quantitative with an experimental approach, using a sample of 6 patients. Each patient performed a MIP reconstruction of the abdominal artery that is truncus coeliacs artery, gastric artery, hepatic artery, splenic artery, superior mesenteric artery, inferior mesenteric artery, renal artery, and communis iliac artery with variations in slice thickness of 5, 10, 15, 20 and 25 mm. Correlation test results produce a P-value= 0.001 smaller than α= 0.05 so that Ho is rejected and Ha is accepted, which means there is a relationship between slice thickness with image information on the MIP processing of abdominal arteries. Correlation coefficient value obtained is 0.593 so that the relationship obtained is moderate. The negative relationship is that the smaller the slice thickness, the diagnostic information on the abdominal artery is clearer, the greater the slice thickness, the diagnostic information generated is increasingly unclear. MIP reconstruction of the abdominal artery can produce clear image information on 5 mm and 10 mm.

A low-energy low-dose γ-ray computed tomography (CT) system used in the gas-liquid two-phase pipe flow measurement has been studied at Tianjin University in recent years. The γ-ray CT system, having a third-generation X-ray CT scanning configuration, is comprised of one 300mCi Am source and 17 CdZnTe detector units and achieves a spatial image resolution of about 7 mm. It is primarily intended to measure the two-phase pipe flow and provide improvement suggestions for industrial CT system. Recently we improve the design for image reconstruction from incomplete projection to optimize the scanning parameters and reduce the radiation dose. First, tomographic problem from incomplete projections is briefly described. Next, a system structure and a hardware circuit design are listed and explained, especially on time parameter setting of the pulse shaper. And then a detailed system analysis is provided in Section II, mainly focusing on spatial resolution, temporal resolution, system noise, and imaging algorithm. Finally, we carry on necessary static and dynamic experiments in a full scan (360°) and two sets of partial scan reconstruction tests to determine the feasibility of this γ-ray CT system for reconstructing the images from insufficient projections. And based on an A-variable algebraic reconstruction technique method, a specially designed algorithm, we evaluate the system performance and noise level of this CT system working quantitatively and qualitatively. Results of dynamic test indicate that the acceptable results can be acquired using a multi-source γ-ray CT system with the same parameters when the flow rate is less than 0.04 m/s and the imaging speed is slower than 33 frames/s.

CTA Evaluation of Bioresorbable Scaffolds versus Metallic Coronary Stents – a Feasibility Study

Background: Computed tomography angiography (CTA) presents important limits in in-stent restenosis (ISR) evaluation in case of metallic coronary stents, due to the artifacts determined by stent struts, which alter in-stent plaque analysis. In case of bioresorbable scaffolds, stent strut resorption allows accurate evaluation of the vessel wall. Aim of the study: This study aims to compare the feasibility of CTA as a follow-up imaging method for ISR diagnosis following elective PTCA procedures, between bioresorbable scaffolds and metallic coronary stents. Material and methods: We conducted a prospective, observational study on 73 patients with elective PTCA procedures in their medical history, in whom 113 stents were assessed via CTA in order to diagnose ISR. Based on stent type, the patients were divided into two groups: Group 1 -patients with bioresorbable vascular scaffolds (BVS) (n = 30); and Group 2 -patients with bare metal stents (BMS) (n = 43). Plaque analysis was possible only in the BVS group with a post-processing research-dedicated software, Syngo.via Frontier, which identified plaque morphology and virtual histology composition. Results: After CTA evaluation, the BVS group presented a significantly higher incidence of severe coronary artery disease (CAD) (Group 1 -73% vs. Group 2 -30%, p <0.0001). The proximal part of the right coronary artery (RCA) presented a significantly higher percentage of metallic stents (14% BMS vs. 2% BVS, p = 0.0029). The comparative analysis of CTA sensibility for the visual evaluation of ISR identified a significantly higher percentage of diagnostic CT evaluations in the BVS group (Group 1 -94% vs. Group 2 -76.19%, p = 0.0006). CTA evaluation provided the most accurate results for the 3.0 and 3.5 mm devices. Regarding CTA sensibility for ISR diagnosis, the BVS group presented the smallest incidence of non-diagnostic CT evaluations. Conclusions: CTA evaluation of bioresorbable scaffolds is superior to metallic stent assessment, the latter being influenced by numerous sources of error dependent mainly on the presence of the metal structure.
