“…These tachycardias persist for long peri ods of time affording good opportunity for study. 1'he ventricular tachycardia caused by aconitine may change ultimately lo ventri cular fibrillation hut this is very rare with delphinine (5). livery attempt to terminate the tachycardia with striking the focus was successful but in two cases this procedure led lo ventricular fibrillation.…”

“…A few crystals of delphinine obtained through the generosity of Prof. Pelletier of the Rockefeller Institute in New York were applied to the lip of the left atrial appendix or the lower region of outer wall of the right atrium near the A-Y border, at the area of inflow of the inferior vena cava. It has been shown that focal application of delphinine on any area of the atria provokes flutter originating in the treated area (23). This method is ideal to produce a center of impulse formation in any desired spot of the atria.…”

“…It is equally well known that different types of atrial arrhythmias can be produced in animals by local application of various drugs to the epicardial surface of the heart (Scherf, 1944(Scherf, , 1947Kisch, 1944;Scherf & Chick, 1951;Prinzmetal, Corday, Brill, Oblath & Kruger, 1952;Scherf, Blumenfeld, Taner & Yildiz, 1960), but it has never been shown that any of these resemble paroxysmal atrial tachycardia in man by the crucial test of being consistently suppressible by means of carotid sinus stimulation. It has now been found that the arrhythmia produced by subepicardial injection of ouabain is regularly susceptible to carotid sinus stimulation.…”
