“…A series of case reports identified three patients with bronchial carcinoids and sarcoidosis. 30 The series of carcinomas reported by Aubry et al in patients with idiopathic pulmonary fibrosis included squamous cell carcinomas, adenocarcinomas, and a single spindle cell carcinoma, but no case of neuroendocrine tumour. 31 We know of no association between idiopathic pulmonary fibrosis and carcinoid tumours or neuroendocrine carcinomas, suggesting that the presence of NECH in and of itself is not a high risk for the development of invasive tumours.…”

“…Recently, Reich et al [4] concluded that in at least one fourth of cases in which both diseases are present, sarcoidosis and malignant lesion may be etiologically related. Among these, 5 patients with an association between carcinoid tumors and sarcoidosis have been documented in the literature [9]. Two of them had a concurrent diagnosis of both diseases, 1 patient had an intestinal carcinoid tumor 3 years before the diagnosis of sarcoidosis was made, 1 patient 40 years before the diagnosis, and 1 patient was operated on for a carcinoid tumor of the appendix 1 year after the manifestation of sarcoidosis.…”

“…As the association of sarcoidosis with malignancy has been an issue, there have been a few case reports about the link between sarcoidosis and carcinoid (12)(13)(14). Brincker and Wilbek (15) first reported the association of sarcoidosis with malignancy.…”
