Carcinogenicity of policosanol in sprague dawley rats: A 24 month study

Abstract: The effects of policosanol (50-500 mg/kg) administered orally for 24 months to Sprague Dawley rats of both sexes were investigated. No differences related to daily clinical observations, weight gain, food consumption, or mortality (survival analysis) between groups were found. Histopathological study showed that the frequency of the occurrence of non-neoplastic and neoplastic (benign and malignant) lesions was similar in the control and policosanol-treated groups. The lesions observed in this study were simila… Show more

“…Given the range and breadth of actions of Metadichol the results suggest that it mimics the effects of 1,25-dihydroxy Vitamin D3 but without the toxic effect secondary to Calcemia that has its use as a pharmaceutical agent [30]. Metadichol is the first example of a smart molecule that can simultaneously modulate multiple targets which can with Metadichol can lead potentially to a successful treatment of many of these challenging diseases [31][32][33][34][35].…”

“…All the three patients have shown improvements in various biomarkers like Creatinine, PTH, and ferritin and will be reported in due course. No adverse side effects have since Metadichol® is a natural food-based product that is completely safe [18][19].…”

“…Metadichol has the potential to be an anti-inflammatory molecule with a broad spectrum of activity. Its constituents (long-chain lipid alcohols) are present in foods commonly consumed on a daily basis and with no toxicity seen even with doses of up to 5000 mg/kg [18][19]. Metadichol could be used as a nutritional…”

“…Figure 20 shows how Metadichol by acting on Nuclear receptors VDR, AHR, and ROR gamma is operating through multiple pathways to block TH17, TH1, IL17, IL22 and IL 23 pathways and thus enhancing anti-inflammatory pathways leading to resolution of psoriasis and related skin diseases. with a safe product like Metadichol [36,37,38]. Based on the experimental finding of Metadichol binding to the receptors that have a role in Psoriasis a software program like Topp Cluster [39,40] show that these clusters of genes target many skin related disease as shown in Figure 21.…”
