Abstract

Carboplatin/paclitaxel Lack of efficacy: case reportA 70-year-old man exhibited lack of efficacy with carboplatin and paclitaxel, while being treated for squamous cell lung carcinoma.The man, who had protracted cough and haemoptysis for the last 2 months, presented to the hospital. He had a significant history of hypertension and emphysema. Following the hospital admission, based on various investigations and clinical presentation, he was diagnosed with stage IIIC squamous cell lung carcinoma and anti-neutrophil cytoplasmic antibody (ANCA)-associated glomerulonephritis. Subsequently, he started receiving prednisolone for ANCA-associated glomerulonephritis. Additionally, on clinical day 52, he started receiving chemotherapy with carboplatin and paclitaxel [routes and dosages not stated] for squamous cell lung carcinoma. However, the carboplatin and paclitaxel therapy showed no favorable responses to squamous cell lung carcinoma (lack of efficacy). His ANCA-associated glomerulonephritis resolved with prednisolone therapy. After 13 months from the initial presentation, he died due to respiratory failure.
