The photo‐induced substitution of a CO ligand has been used to prepare the halfsandwich complexes (η3‐C3H5)V(CO)4[P(C7H7)3] (1), (η5‐C5H5)V(CO)3[P(C7H7)3] (2), (η7‐C7H7)V(CO)2[P(C7H7)3] (3), (η6‐C6H3Me3)Cr(CO)2[P(C7H7)3] (4), and (η5‐C5H5)Mn(CO)2[P(C7H7)3] (7), in which the olefinic phosphane is coordinated as a conventional two‐electron ligand through the lone pair of electrons at phosphorus. Some analogues, which are permethylated at the aromatic ring (2*, 4*, 7*), were included for comparison. Subsequent photo‐elimination of another CO group from 4 or 7 converts the olefinic phosphane into a chelating four‐electron ligand, leading to (η6‐C6H3Me3)Cr(CO)[P(C7H7)2(η2‐C7H7)] (5) and (η5‐C5H5)Mn(CO)[P(C7H7)2(η2‐C7H7)] (8), respectively. The η2‐coordinated double bond in 5 and 8 can be displaced by trimethylphosphite to give (η6‐C6H3Me3)Cr(CO)[P(C7H7)3][P(OMe)3] (6) and (η5‐C5H5)Mn(CO)[P(C7H7)3][P(OMe)3] (9). The 31P and 13C NMR spectra of all complexes are discussed, and X‐ray structure analyses for 2 and 8 are presented. Prolonged irradiation of 7 and 8 led to a di(cycloheptatrienyl)phosphido‐bridged dimer, {(η5‐C5H5)Mn(CO)[P(C7H7)2]}2(10).

Aminotroponiminates (ATIs) have recently been shown to belong to the growing class of redox‐active ligands. The choice of the metal center allowed to switch between reversible electron transfer (M=Rh) and reductively induced dimerization (M=Na). Here, we investigate if the reductively induced dimerization of ATIs is a more general phenomenon for their alkali‐metal complexes. Lithium ATI complexes are shown to undergo reductively induced dimerizations, which are equilibrium reactions and chemically reversible. The choice of the metal center (Li vs. Na), the substitution pattern at the nitrogen atoms of the ATI ligands, and the solvent critically influence the regioselectivity and diastereoselectivity of the radical‐dimerization reactions. Potassium ATIs are shown to be susceptible to side reactions, more specifically a reduction accompanied by hydrogen‐atom transfer. Products and intermediates of the reductively induced dimerizations were characterized by techniques including NMR and EPR spectroscopy, cyclic voltammetry, DFT calculations, single‐crystal X‐ray diffraction, and mass spectrometry.

Alkylated Cyclopentadienylvanadium(V) Complexes, P reparation,51V NMR DataThe synthesis of alkylated ?75-cyclopentadienylvanadium(V) complexes tC4H9N=VCpRCl2 (CpR = C5H4R, C5H3R2, C5HMe4, C5Me5) is described. The compounds have been investigated by 1V NMR spectroscopy; th e 51V resonances are found downfield of the unsubstituted complex 'C 4H9N=V(r75-C5H5)Cl2. The deshielding of the 51V nucleus increases with the number of substituents R. E inleitung teJt-Butylim ido-, terr-B utylam ido-und rj5-C yclopentadienyl-Liganden erhöhen als starke Donor-Liganden die Redoxstabilität von Vanadium (V) und bewirken zugleich als sperrige Liganden eine A bschirm ung der K oordinationssphäre des Vana dium atom s; dies erm öglicht die D arstellung stabi ler < 7 -O rganovanadium (V )-V erbindungen [1|. Uns interessierte der Stabilisierungseffekt der alkylierten 775-Cyclopentadienyl-L iganden. In der vorlie genden A rbeit berichten w ir über die D arstellung der Komplexe 'C 4H9N =V C pRC l2 und den Einfluß der A lkylsubstituenten des C yclopentadienyl-R inges auf die chem ische Verschiebung 6 im 51V-NM R-Spektrum.E rgebnisse D er 775-C yclopentadienylvanadium (V )-K om plex 'C 4H9N = V C pC l2 (1) ist bekannt und w urde struktu rell untersucht [2]. V anadium (V )-K om plexe m it alkylierten C yclopentadienyl-Liganden sind in A na logie zu 1 auf folgendem Wege darstellbar:12 'C 4H9N =V C pRC l2 + LiCl 2-11 D er 1,2,4-Triisopropyl-cyclopentadienyl-K om plex 9 konnte nicht in reiner Form isoliert werden (V erunreinigung durch nicht abtrennbare organi sche V erbindungen!;. M it zunehm ender A lkylie rung des C p-R inges und G röße der Substituen ten sinkt die A usbeute der Vanadium (V)-Kom plexe drastisch, w ährend gleichzeitig der Anteil redu zierter Vanadium Verbindungen stark ansteigt. Dies ist darauf zurückzuführen, dass der zunehm ende E lektronendruck durch die Substituenten (+I-Effekt) die C yclopentadienyl-A nionen destabilisiert und das Reduktionsverm ögen der Lithium -cyclopentadienide erhöht [3], Die Komplexe sind rot braune oder violette Feststoffe (6 : schwarz) und leichtlöslich in Petrolether und Benzol. In den M as senspektren entsprechen die höchsten tn/z-Werte dem M olekülpeak M +. Die r]5-K oordination der C y clopentadienyl-L iganden C pR geht aus den 1Hund 51 V -N M R-Spektren hervor. D er D iisopropyl-cyclopentadienyl-K om plex liegt als Isom eren-G em isch 7a, b vor (1,2-und 1,3-Stellung der Substituen ten); im 1 H -N M R -Spektrum erscheinen zwei Si gnalsätze im Intensitätsverhältnis « 2 : 1 . D er Diisopropylcyclopentadienyl-L igand besitzt je zwei chem isch nicht-äquivalente, paarw eise diastereotope M ethylgruppen [4], so dass jedes Isomere zwei D ubletts aufw eist. Für die Ringsprotonen treten zwei A B-,-Spin-System e auf. D er intensitätsstärke re Signalsatz zeigt das D ublett bei tieferem Feld als das Triplett; beim intensitätsschw ächeren Si gnalsatz ist es um gekehrt. Aus dem Vergleich mit den Kom plexen [?75-C 5H 3( l , 3 -'P rop)2]2Fe und [//5-C 5H 3(l,3 -'P ro p )2]M o(C O )3(C H 3) folgt, dass der 09...
