“…Abundant large and flat Eulepidina thrived in the deeper part of the oligophotic zone (Pomar et al 2014). The presence of argillaceousmarly sediment and abundance of planktonic taxa suggest somewhat deeper conditions.…”

“…This unit represents a fringing reef complex and shows a very well-preserved lateral zonation of the reef subenvironments (Bosellini and Russo, 1992;Parente, 1994). The sampled section shows clinostratified bioclastic deposits belonging to the reef slope subenvironment showing no evidence of tectonic deformation (Bosellini and Russo, 1992;Pomar et al, 2014). Very low NRM intensities characterize these rocks (15-180 µA m −1 ), and stable ChRM components with maximum unblocking temperatures between 220 and 500 • C were isolated from 31 specimens ( Fig.…”

“…Recently, Morsilli et al [2012] and Pomar et al [2014] demonstrated the existence of Late Eocene, coral-dominated build-ups, in relatively deep, mesophotic zone and relatively nutrient-rich water. These buildups are characterized by non-framework corals, with sparse coral colonies in a bioclastic, 20 muddy matrix.…”

“…Such conditions commonly correspond to a depth range of 40 to 80 m of water depth [Pomar, 2001] but they may also occur in dense seagrass meadows or in case of important turbidity [Pomar et al, 2014]. The absence of miliolids or green algae fragments do not support such 20 hypothesis for facies D2, that may be associated to the lower part of the mid-ramp.…”
