ABSTRACT Land cover improvement constitutes an essential element for greenhouse gas removal in the atmosphere and constitute at the same time the most challenges for worldwide. This study aim to synthetize the national initiatives or actions developed and implemented to improve land cover from 1985 to 2015 through national implemented policies analysis. Results shown that during 30 last pass years’ three key policies such as Policy Speech of 02 October 1983, Strategy for Poverty Alleviation and Accelerated Increasing Strategy and Sustainable Development with at least 10 important actions have been developed and implemented. Thereby, in term of protected area, 4.2 million hectare were created and conserved. For reforestation promotion, more than 63954.304 Kg of trees seeds was harvested and more than 128 116 182 trees plants were planted from 2002 to 2015 on 150 316.54 hectares. Butane consumption promotion through household reduced considerably firewood and butane consumption ratio from 451 times in 2000 to 88 time in 2015. Implementations of those policies were contributed to reduce pressure on the forests and improve land cover and improved significantly Burkina Faso CO2 sequestration potential. RESUMEN La mejora de la cubierta terrestre constituye un elemento esencial para la eliminación de los gases de efecto invernadero en la atmósfera y constituye al mismo tiempo el mayor desafío para el mundo. Este estudio pretende sintetizar las iniciativas o acciones nacionales desarrolladas e implementadas para mejorar la cubierta terrestre desde 1985 hasta 2015 a través del análisis de las políticas nacionales implementadas. Los resultados muestran que durante los últimos 30 años se han desarrollado e implementado tres políticas clave, como el Discurso Político del 2 de octubre de 1983, la Estrategia de Alivio de la Pobreza y la Estrategia de Aumento Acelerado y Desarrollo Sostenible, con al menos 10 acciones importantes. De este modo, se han creado y conservado 4,2 millones de hectáreas de zonas protegidas. Para la promoción de la reforestación, se cosecharon más de 6.954,304 kg de semillas de árboles y se plantaron más de 128.116.182 plantas de árboles entre 2002 y 2015 en 150.316,54 hectáreas. La promoción del consumo de butano a través de los hogares redujo considerablemente la proporción de consumo de leña y butano de 451 veces en 2000 a 88 veces en 2015. La aplicación de estas políticas ha contribuido a reducir la presión sobre los bosques y a mejorar la cobertura del suelo y a mejorar significativamente el potencial de secuestro de CO2 de Burkina Faso.

Agroforestry system is the most climate smart agriculture practices in West Africa. Because perennials are generally more resistant to climate extremes, such as drought, flood, and heat, than annual crops. Park land may appear to be competitive with crop on farm. To elucidate that, trees number and their canopy cover on farming system were assessed through tree inventory in three municipalities and compared with normal trees canopy cover. More than 3000 trees which spreading was 1154 in Bouroum-Bourom, 884 in Ouahigouya, and 1054 in Sapouy were used. Trees density and mean tree canopy cover in farms were calculated. Trees density on farm were about the double of trees threshold number in Soudanian zone, one and half both in Soudan Sahel and Sahel strict zones. Tree canopy cover were 66.25, 59.92, and 42.1 m2, respectively in Bouroum-Bourom, Sapouy, and Ouahigouya. The average tree cover was 23.99, 18.23, and 14.88%, respectively, the Municipality. Agroforestry system as more trees that it should be, to optimize the positive impact of agroforestry system to increase crop yield and restore land fertility the number of trees on parkland system should be 15, 17, and 24 trees/ha, respectively in Bouroum-Bouroum, Sapouy, and Ouahigouya.

The increasing carbon emissions have been a major concern for most countries around the world. And as a result, every country is concerned about developing appropriate strategies to curtail it. As a major economy and the largest carbon emitter in the world, China has pledged to reduce the carbon intensity by 60–65% by 2030, compared with 2005 levels, and achieve carbon neutrality before 2060. Therefore, the analysis of the impact of China’s carbon intensity is becoming an increasing important topic. Due to the spatial heterogeneity of carbon intensity, various spatial econometric models have been applied in this field. However, the existing literatures failed to consider the cross-products of relevant factors. This paper constructs our dynamic general nesting spatial panel model (GNS) with common factors to deal with the dilemma, and examines the direct and spatial–temporal spillover effects of industrial structure, GDP per capita, investment in anti-pollution projects as percentage of GDP and energy price on carbon intensity in China over the period 2003–2017. Our analysis shows that: (1) China’s carbon intensity showed the spatial agglomeration and temporal “inertia” from 2003 to 2017. (2) From the time dimension, the long-term effect of industrial structure first increased and then gradually decreased. (3) From the spatial dimension, industrial structure and investment in anti-pollution projects as percentage of GDP accounted for the main spatial heterogeneity. Furthermore, this paper attempts to provide policy implications to help reduce carbon intensity and achieve carbon neutrality in China.
