Carbon Nanotubes Functionalized With Folic Acid Attached Via Biomimetic Peptide Linker

Abstract: Conjugates of FA attached to MWNTs via peptide linkers prepared from β-alanine residues are resistant to proteolytic degradation. Viability in colon cancer cells and normal colonocytes confirmed their lack of cytotoxicity.

“…In both cases, 4-toluenosulphonate 4-(4,6-dimethoxy-1,3,5-triazin-2-yl)-4-morpholine (DMT/NMM/TosO − ) was used as a coupling reagent [ 35 ]. In addition to high efficiency, DMT/NMM/TosO − is characterized by the easy removal of side products, thereby ensuring that there were no deposits on the functionalized nanomaterials [ 36 ] (see Figure 5 ).…”

“…In the first stage of purification, CNTs were annealed at 450°C for 2 h in order to remove amorphous carbon. The choice of temperature resulted from the fact that, in 450°C, the amorphous carbon should be removed without losses for the CNTs [11].…”

“…The choice of this reagent was based on its high efficiency for both classical peptide synthesis and ester synthesis in solution and on solid phase, as well as its usefulness for the functionalization of solid surfaces. DMT/NMM/TosO − has been used successfully to functionalize cellulose, alginate, chitosan and carbon nanomaterials [51,[71][72][73]. In addition to efficient acylation of nucleophilic groups in the presence of superactive triazine carboxylic acid esters, triazine coupling reagents have one more important property, crucial from the perspective of the modification of solid materials.…”
