Carbon nanotubes and xerogels as supports of well-dispersed Pt catalysts for environmental applications

Abstract: Different types of carbon materials including multi-walled nanotubes (MWNT), carbon xerogels (CX) and activated carbon (AC) were used as supports to prepare platinum catalysts (1% w/w), which were tested in the treatment of aqueous aniline solutions by catalytic wet air oxidation (CWAO). The prepared materials and catalysts were characterized by several techniques (SEM/EDS, TEM, N 2 adsorption, TPD and H 2 chemisorption). All catalysts presented a very high activity for the removal of aniline and total organic… Show more

“…MWCNTs have electronic properties similar to those of graphite and are thus semimetals. They are promising for multiple applications including strong composite materials, field emission displays, and adsorbents for gas separation or storage [40][41][42][43][44][45][46][47]. Similar to SWCNTs, a continuous low-cost production method producing MWCNTs that are easily purified is required for MWCNTs to be incorporated in emerging technologies.…”
