Carbon nanofibers grown on metallic filters as novel catalytic materials

Abstract: Carbon nanofibers (CNF) were synthesized on sintered metal fibers (SMF) filters of nickel and Ni-containing alloys (Inconel, stainless steel (SS)) by thermal chemical vapor deposition of ethane in the presence of hydrogen at $660 8C. The CNFs were formed directly over the SMF filters without deposition of metal particles. The catalytic active sites leading to the CNF formation were attained by oxidation-reduction of the SMF filter. The CNFs present platelet morphology as determined by X-ray diffraction and tra… Show more

“…The aim of this work is the characterization of oxygencontaining groups created on the surface of CNFs grown on inconel sintered metal fiber material (CNF/SMF Inconel ) [15][16][17] by two different oxidative methods. For this purpose, we have coupled a step-wise TPD with XPS in the same UHV apparatus.…”

“…To increase the specific surface area (SSA) of the SMFs and to attain a homogeneous coverage by IL, the SMFs were coated by a layer of carbon nanofibers (CNFs). The CNF/SMF support has high thermoconductivity, suppressing hot spot formation during exothermic hydrogenation reactions [10].…”
