CarbonK-shell photoionization of fixed-in-spaceC2H4<

Abstract: Measurements of the photoelectron angular distributions in the body-fixed frame (MFPAD) have been carried out for 290-to 320-eV photons (just above the carbon K-shell ionization threshold) on C 2 H 4 using an approach based on cold-target recoil-ion momentum spectroscopy (COLTRIMS). The results are compared with a theoretical calculation and excellent agreement is found. A direct verification of the "f-wave shape resonance" is accomplished by obtaining the complex amplitude of the l = 3 partial wave, which sho… Show more

“…The wide range of E Auger measured in our experiment (from about 250 to 268 eV) is an indication that all three different Auger decay mechanisms (i.e., DA, SA, and CA) introduced earlier play a role. Though we did not record photoelectrons in the current measurement, the kinetic energies of the photoelectrons from the K-shell ionization of ethylene molecules in a similar photon energy range are reported in the literature [52]. The reported photoelectron energy distribution in fact shows satellite lines in addition to the main line in Ref.…”

“…The reported photoelectron energy distribution in fact shows satellite lines in addition to the main line in Ref. [52]; however, in that experiment the corresponding Auger electrons were not recorded. From these yields and our branching ratios we can deduce that for 310-eV photons the DA mechanism is likely to dominate.…”

“…Two paired fragment ions resulting from a breakup channel form a stripe in the PIPICO spectrum (also e.g. [27,[47][48][49][50] of the fragment ions to determine the populated electronic state of the parent dication and the asymptotic final energy. Once determined, these values are used to back trace the path the molecule took through the PES, as discussed in the following subsections.…”
