Although collaboration and performance measurement are widely recognized as critical for increasing sustainability in supply chains, little is known about how comprehensively firms are currently measuring their supply chain carbon emissions (or Scope 3). We develop a way to assess how complete firms' reports of Scope 3 emissions are, by comparing them to benchmarks based on Environmental Input-Output Life-Cycle Assessment models. We use this approach to evaluate Scope 3 carbon emissions disclosed by many of the largest firms in the United States to CDP (formerly the Carbon Disclosure Project). We estimate that, on average, these firms reported 22% of their full Scope 3 emissions in 2013. Our results show that Scope 3 reporting varies widely across industries. We highlight two firms that are able to capture a significant portion of their Scope 3 carbon emissions despite having a large number of suppliers. Although 1 firms are beginning to account for an increasing portion of their supply chain's carbon emissions, there is substantial room for improvement in their measurement and disclosure of Scope 3 emissions.

ResumoTendo em vista a importância do estudo das mudanças climáticas e a necessidade de enriquecer a bibliografia referente ao assunto, este artigo tem como objetivo analisar as emissões de Gases de Efeito Estufa (GEE) no transporte de resíduos na Universidade Federal da Bahia, em Salvador, estado da Bahia. A metodologia envolveu a pesquisa de dados referentes ao fluxo de resíduos na instituição em 2014 e a busca de fatores de emissão existentes na literatura. O cálculo das emissões e conversão para tCO 2 eq foi feito através de uma planilha Excel® e as distâncias percorridas foram obtidas pelo Google Maps®. Com o resultado encontrado de 94,96 tCO 2 eq e com dados de população e área fornecidos pela Universidade, foi possível traçar indicadores, a fim de tornar esses dados comparáveis com outras universidades brasileiras e do exterior. AbstractIn view of the importance of the study of climate change and to enrich the literature relative to the subject, this paper aims analyze the emission of Greenhouse Gases (GHG) in waste transportation at Universidade Federal da Bahia (UFBA), at Salvador, Bahia State. The methodology involved data research referring to the waste stream in the institution in 2014 and search for emission factors on literature. The calculation of emissions and conversion to tCO 2 e was done through an Excel® spreadsheet and the traveled distances were obtained by Google Maps®. With the result found of 94,96 tCO 2 eq and with population and area data provided by University was possible to trace indicators, in order to make these data comparable with other Brazilian and abroad universities.
